THE HOLY QURAN
30 JUZ
The Holy Quran is divided into 30 equal parts (juz). Each juz is roughly 20 pages long, making it ideal for completing a full reading (khatm) in a month.
What is a juz and how should this index be used?
A juz is one of thirty roughly equal reading divisions used to make regular Quran reading easier. A surah, by contrast, is a chapter of the Quran itself; a juz boundary is not a thematic chapter boundary. A juz can therefore begin in the middle of one surah, span several surahs, and end inside another.
Traditional mushafs may divide each juz into smaller reading markers, most commonly two hizb. These markers are useful for pacing, but they do not change the meaning or boundaries of a verse or surah. When reading a passage for context, there is no need to stop simply because a juz boundary has been reached.
Reading one juz per day in Ramadan is a common way to complete the Quran in about thirty days, but it is not a mandatory daily quota for every reader. Reading speed, tajwid practice, translation or tafsir study, and available time differ. Using the juz index for a slower, context-focused plan is equally valid.
Each card below links to the actual first verse of that juz. To browse chapters in mushaf order with verse counts and Meccan/Medinan information, use the Surahs index.
