ٱلَّذِينَ لَا يُؤْتُونَ ٱلزَّكَوٰةَ وَهُم بِٱلْءَاخِرَةِ هُمْ كَٰفِرُونَ

About This Surah
Surah Fussilat presents the Quran as a revelation whose verses are clearly set out for people willing to listen. It connects divine unity with creation, recalls the rejection of ‘Ad and Thamud, describes the testimony of human faculties and calls believers to respond to evil with what is better. Steadfast faith appears as both conviction and conduct.
The opening describes a Book explained in Arabic and brings good news and warning. Opponents say their hearts are covered and their ears blocked. The messenger is instructed to state his humanity and the exclusive divinity of God.
A creation passage discusses the earth, provision and the heavens. Its sequence has a long interpretive tradition and should not be presented as a simplistic modern cosmology calculation. The purpose is divine order and authority.
‘Ad respond with pride in their strength; Thamud receive guidance but prefer blindness. Their stories reveal how material power or clear evidence can be rejected through arrogance.
A judgment scene describes hearing, sight and skin testifying. People who assumed God did not know much of what they did are confronted by their own faculties. The passage is moral and unseen; it should not be converted into speculative neuroscience.
The central ethical instruction says good and evil are not equal and calls for responding with what is better, potentially transforming hostility. This does not require a person to remain in abuse or abandon lawful safety.
Those who say “Our Lord is God” and remain steadfast receive reassurance. The surah closes by pointing to signs on horizons and within people until truth becomes clear.
The creation sequence and references to days answer theological rejection and should not be forced into a simplistic modern scientific chronology.
The command to repel evil with what is better governs personal conduct but does not require a victim to remain near an abuser or abandon safety.
The Quran’s guidance and healing language concerns revelation’s moral and spiritual function; it is not a guaranteed clinical cure.
