7-DAY GETTING STARTED WITH THE QURAN PLAN
For someone new to reading the Quran, the right first step is to begin with short and familiar surahs, not long ones. This seven-day plan spreads Al-Fatihah and the five short surahs most commonly read and memorized in the Islamic tradition across a week. Day one begins with Al-Fatihah, the Quran's opening surah — these seven verses, read in every prayer, are considered a summary of the entire Quran. Day two is devoted to Al-Ikhlas, which conveys the essence of monotheism; days three and four to Al-Falaq and An-Nas, together known as the two 'Refuge Surahs'. Day five covers Al-Asr, which summarizes the value of time in three verses, and day six covers Al-Kawthar, the Quran's shortest surah. Day seven closes with a repetition of Al-Fatihah and a summary of the week's five short surahs. Since each surah is short and easy to memorize, this plan offers a sustainable start for anyone wanting their first contact with the Quran. Starting with long surahs can discourage new readers, while getting to know these six short surahs within a week builds confidence and gives the ear a familiarity with Arabic letters and the flow of recitation. Your progress through the plan is saved in your browser; you can resume from any day.
