بِسْمِ اللَّهِ الرَّحْمَٰنِ الرَّحِيمِ
مَآ أَغْنَىٰ عَنْهُ مَالُهُۥ وَمَا كَسَبَ
His wealth will not avail him or that which he gained.

He will [enter to] burn in a Fire of [blazing] flame

About This Surah
The chapter names Abu Lahab through a title and declares the failure of his hands and person. Wealth and what he earned provide no rescue. The wording directly confronts the assumption that family status and assets can defeat revelation.
His wife is described as carrying firewood, with a rope of fiber around her neck. Commentators discuss whether the image refers to literal acts of carrying thorns, spreading harm or an afterlife punishment. These are interpretive options; none of them is part of the verse’s own wording.
This is an exceptional revealed identification of two opponents within the prophetic context. Readers do not possess authority to create new “Al-Masad” verdicts against people they dislike.
The surah’s transferable lesson concerns the limits of wealth, lineage and coordinated hostility—not permission for insults toward families.
