Surah Al-Ikhlas · Verse 4
Arabic Text
وَلَمْ يَكُن لَّهُۥ كُفُوًا أَحَدٌۢ
4
Mahmoud Khalil Al-Husary
English Translation
Nor is there to Him any equivalent."
— Noor International Center
Transliteration
Wa lam yakun lahu kufuwan ahad
Context in This Surah
No genealogy and no equal — verses 3-4
The final verses deny both lineage and comparison. They protect divine uniqueness from being explained through biological descent, inherited status, or resemblance to created beings. The surrounding verses define both its immediate purpose and the limits that prevent a careless or overbroad modern application.
Interpretation Notes
- The hadith merit does not mean that three repetitions replace the Quran’s full content, study, or obligations.
- Translation choices for al-Samad are explanatory approximations and do not exhaust the Arabic term.
- The surah should not be used to caricature or insult named religious communities.
